Play Solitaire Online

Solitaire — also known as Klondike Solitaire — is the card game that has shipped with personal computers for decades and remains one of the most played games in the world. The goal is straightforward: build four foundation piles, one per suit, from Ace up to King. You get there by sorting a shuffled tableau of 28 cards into alternating-color sequences, turning over hidden cards as columns clear, and drawing from the remaining stock when you run out of moves.

Each move is a small decision. Should you move that red six onto the black seven now, or wait to see if drawing from the stock reveals a better play? The game rewards patience and forward thinking, but a little luck in the draw goes a long way too.

How to Play

The tableau has seven columns. The first column has one card face-up, the second has two cards with one face-up, and so on. The remaining cards form the stock pile in the upper left. Cards from the stock can be drawn one or three at a time depending on the difficulty setting.

Build the tableau by placing cards in descending order and alternating colors — a black 9 on a red 10, for example. Only Kings can be placed in empty columns. When you expose an Ace, move it to a foundation pile and start building that suit upward. The game is won when all 52 cards are stacked on the four foundations.

Tips to Win More Often

  • Uncover face-down cards first. Every face-down card is a hidden resource. Prioritize moves that flip them over.
  • Empty columns are powerful. A free column lets you maneuver Kings and temporarily park sequences while you reorganize.
  • Don't move to the foundation too early. A low card on the foundation may still be needed in the tableau to build sequences.
  • Cycle the stock carefully. In three-card draw mode, think ahead before you commit — you only get a limited number of passes through the deck.

A Game for Any Pace

Solitaire works equally well as a five-minute distraction and a longer focused session. There is no timer forcing you to rush, and no opponent to outplay. It is a solo puzzle against the deck, and every new shuffle is a fresh challenge. Some deals are unwinnable no matter how well you play — that is part of what keeps it interesting.

Play Anywhere, No Setup Required

This version of Solitaire runs directly in your browser on any device. No download, no account, no installation. Open the page and your cards are dealt immediately. Whether you are on a phone during a commute or at a desktop with a few minutes to spare, the game is ready when you are.

Who Plays Solitaire?

Solitaire has one of the broadest player bases of any game. Casual players pick it up for a quick mental break. Card game enthusiasts appreciate the depth hidden beneath the simple rules. Older players enjoy it for its familiarity — this is the same game they have been playing for years, now available instantly in a browser without needing to find a physical deck.

It is also a great introductory card game for younger players learning suits, sequences, and basic strategic thinking in a low-stakes environment.
